Where to begin…

I started cutting hair at age 12 and basically haven’t stopped since.

Almost 4 decades later I’m still as obsessed with cracking the code, still “stalking the perfect cut” as an early mentor described it.

For the first decade of my career I was “self taught” for lack of a better term.

In reality I was learning from every sibling or friend down for a free cut, every coworker I could watch, every magazine I could get my hands on…

This was the 80s/90s pre internet era so it was trial and error-many trials and many errors.

In 2001 I made the jump to NYC for an apprenticeship at the legendary Bumble and bumble, where I got to work under Michael Gordon, Howard & Raymond McLaren and too many others to list (you know who you are).

It was there that I finally learned structure, but just as important, how to break away from it.

“Precision” cutting - but for the new millennium. Balance over symmetry.

The goal wasn’t “perfect” in the traditional sense but rather “perfectly imperfect”.

The line between the two wasn’t always easy to discern.

I got to travel all over the country and beyond as a cutting specialist & educator.

I also had the opportunity to assist the top editorial stylists on photo shoots & backstage at the shows, which was invaluable for developing my artistic eye.

The Bumble and bumble “experience” was just that-a whirlwind of innovation and madness, creativity & growth, breakdowns and breakthroughs.

After 2 decades immersed in such an intense community, I knew it was time to go solo.

I’ve always had a vision of an alternative to the traditional salon experience.

Something more personal, more private & discreet.

And I was adamant about being independent, unwilling to compromise my artistic vision.

So when I crossed paths with Crystal in 2024, I quickly realized that we shared a similar vision and we decided to collaborate.

The result of that partnership is NOMAD_STUDIO.

Finally, I can offer the elevated service and a unique luxury experience (at a reasonable rate) that I’ve always known was possible.

I can’t wait to share it with the world, one client at a time.

Conveniently located at 30th and Broadway in the bustling NoMad /Ktown neighborhood, the studio is a discreet getaway specializing in a wide variety of elevated services from cutting to color to skincare, makeup and styling-as well as access to a carefully curated selection of the most sought after clean hair and skincare products from around the world, handpicked by Crystal & Andrew.

NOMAD_ can be difficult to describe.

Part boutique, part spa, part artist & photo studio…it’s best understood by experiencing it firsthand. 

In short, it’s a vibe.

NOMAD clean hair STUDIO 

is located inside NomadWorks at 30th & Broadway, an independent incubator for entrepreneurs and innovation of all kinds, centrally located 2 blocks from Herald Square, easily accessible from most subway lines as well as PATH trains. 

NomadWorks’ address is 1216 Broadway (but the entrance is on 30th-you’ll see Copper Mug Coffee in our lobby).

Clients can go to the 2nd floor and check in at reception. 

From there, Crystal or Andrew will personally greet you and escort you to the studio.

Appointments are booked through Square Appointments.

A credit card is required to hold an appointment but your card won’t be charged until completion of service. Cash is also accepted if preferred. 

Feel free to reschedule or cancel your appointment anytime up until 24hr from appointment time. 

FOR NO SHOWS OR FOR CANCELLATIONS MADE WITHIN 24 HRS OF APPOINTMENT TIME,

CREDIT CARD ON FILE WILL BE CHARGED A FEE EQUAL TO HALF THE APPOINTMENT RATE. NO EXCEPTIONS
